Dr. Andrew Menaker is a psychologist (PhD), with over 10 years experience as a psychological consultant for institutional and independent traders, and is an active trader himself.

During his ten-year bank consulting career, Andrew became an expert on the psychology of financial risk working with professionals such as traders, mutual fund managers, portfolio managers, and analysts responsible for financial decisions on an institutional level. His institutional experience also includes executive coaching, crisis management, organizational development and consulting around corporate threat assessment.

Prior to Andrew’s entrance into the trading world in 1995, he spent a few years as a psychological consultant for the US Dept of Defense and the US Navy. In this work, he utilized concepts of situational awareness as applied to stress reduction training, crisis management and threat assessment. Andrew realized that the psychological aspects of situational awareness, crisis management, psychological trauma, and threat assessment share many things in common with trading psychology.

Recognizing the similarities and differences of institutional and retail trading, Andrew leverages his experience to offer a unique service as a consultant to both independent retail and OPM traders. Andrew focuses on performance enhancement rather than traditional psychotherapy or mental health. Andrew refers to himself as a ‘stretch’, not as a ‘shrink’. His interest in performance enhancement began in 1988 when he conducted empirically validated original research in the area of sports psychology.

Andrew’s unique approach to performance enhancement and trading psychology reflects his own personal trading journey, his education and training in psychology, and his experience working directly with a wide spectrum of traders from the largest bank traders to at-home independent traders. He has also worked as a coach with accomplished performing artists. In his consultation and coaching he draws from a wide variety of performance enhancement models and techniques including emotion analytics, neuroscience, bio-feedback, sports psychology, Zen concepts, mindfulness training, and other alternative approaches. Andrew develops a customized approach based on the unique needs of each client.

Helping others improve is a passion Andrew has had for many years and he derives great satisfaction from it.
