The Trader's 2014 New Year Resolutions

Welcome to another trading year! First of all, a very Happy New Year and may I wish you all a bright, joyful and very profitable 2014. As I have been writing in recent posts, it is unlikely that trading in 2014 is going to be any easier than it was in 2013, not least because so many markets are either at, or reaching potential turning points. Added to this we will also have the effects of the FED's tweaking of its bond buying program, whose impact will be felt, not only on the US dollar, gold and equities but also on many emerging markets. This is a topic I will return during the year, as it a perfect example of the speed with which money can flow into and out of assets and markets.

European Market Outlook

FOREX: Most major markets remain in holiday mode as the weekend neared and thin trading conditions prevail. This morning's session was however noted for the yen's sharp recovery off recent 5-year lows vs the dollar and as the aussie also rallied off its initial morning lows. Dollar-yen fell back Y105.00 last night in the US and extended the lows through Y104.50 this morning despite markets in Japan still closed for the new year holidays, to hit Y104.16 as euro-yen also retreated to a Y142.23 low from Y143.32.
